Extra Curricular Activities
There are numerous extra-curricular programs and activities to support and enhance the curriculum at Providence Catholic School. The purpose of extra-curricular activities is to provide meaningful experiences that aid in the formation of a well-rounded student, and to help children identify and develop their strengths, talents, or interests.
STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council provides our students with the opportunity to learn leadership and service within their community. Students within this organization learn the election process first hand. They participate in fundraising, decision making, school spirit, and school specialty days.
CHILDREN'S CHOIR Students in grades 3-8 have the opportunity to join our children's choir. Our choir sings at school Mass on alternate weeks, as well as special occasions such as Christmas Eve, Family Mass, and Masses during Catholic Schools Week. The choir is directed by the church music director, Mr. B. and first grade teacher, Mrs. Lauzon.
READING INCENTIVE PROGRAMS We encourage our students to read continuously during the year. We offer the Book-It incentive program for the students and also the Great America Reading Program. The Book It program rewards children with a free pizza from Pizza Hut. Great America rewards the participants with a free admission ticket to Great America.
PROGRAMS Students in grades K-5 participate in an annual Christmas concert which is held at St. John the Baptist Church. An annual spring concert has grades 6 - 8 sharing their talents with parents and community. These concerts are directed by Mrs. Ford the music specialist.
D.A.R.E. PROGRAM The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department provides the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program for our students in grade five. This nine-week program addresses critical issues of drugs. Students who successfully complete the course earn the right to participate in the D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony.
GEOGRAPHY BEE The Geography Bee is similar to the Spelling Bee. The National Geographic Bee is sponsored by National Geographic and Amtrak, and tests students' knowledge in the area of world geography. Students have the opportunity to advance beyond the school level. The social studies teacher acts as the advisor for this activity.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART As long time supporters of Jump Rope for Heart, our students have become accustomed to participating in this activity. Time is set aside for our students to jump rope and earn money from sponsors. That money is then donated to the Heart Foundation. The physical education teacher acts as the advisor for this activity.
LENTEN PROJECTS During the Lenten season our students are challenged to collect coins. The idea is to direct funds toward the needy, rather than spend them on ourselves. The funds collected, are channeled to whatever charity the school decides. This year the students will be raising funds for Heifer International. Student Council will have special days to help students support this project.
BUS PATROL Students in eighth grade are invited to model appropriate bus behavior as bus patrols. This leadership role allows eighth grade students the opportunity to monitor and report bus behavior to the proper authorities, which aids the driver in providing a safe bus environment. Students must continually earn this privilege. If they successfully complete their assignment, they are invited to participate in a trip to the Wisconsin Dells at the end of the school year. The eighth grade teacher acts as the advisor, with the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department as a partner in the project.
COMMUNITY SERVICE In addition to extra-curricular activities, our students participate in community service projects. The west campus students are required to complete ten hours of community service each year. These projects are designed to provide members of our community with necessities that we may take for granted. This year's projects consisted of a hat and mitten tree, adopt-a-family for Christmas, and stuff-a-bus with St. Alphonsus Catholic School during Catholic Schools Week, and also a collection for the tsunami relief. The students have also adopted the local Veteran's Center and visit with the veterans periodically during the year.
KENOSHA COUNTY FAIR PROJECTS Students are invited to participate in classroom and individual fair projects. The projects are tagged and displayed as part of the Providence Catholic School display in the education area of the fair. Students may earn cash prizes as well as ribbons. Classroom teachers decide their involvement in class projects. The Home and School Association prepares the projects for display and mans the booth at the fair.
ATHLETIC PROGRAMS
WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP Our eighth grade students are encouraged to participate in our annual trip to Washington D.C. This trip is rich in history and provides our students the opportunity to view the hub of our nation's government. In addition, we attend with area Catholic schools to further build our community. The principal accompanies the students on this trip.

FAMILY EVENTS Students and their families are invited to participate in several events throughout the school year. Most of these events were planned and sponsored by the Providence Catholic School Home and School Association. These events include:
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK The celebration of faith is evident during this special week. The students participate in numerous activities during the week. Special dress days are enjoyed which are chosen by the Student Council and our annual stuff-a-bus is done with the students from St. Alphonsus.
